As for CSV/XLS/XML...what is your point? If all you're doing is saving simple values, CSV is sufficient. Just like JSON has many valid uses for simpler data interchange.

Frankly I prefer pipe-delimited files rather than CSV, because comma text values are pretty common.

XML and JSON are not in the same league. I'm not saying use XML for everything, just that it is very valuable in many cases where JSON is not a good fit. For instance, XML makes perfect sense for the new Office formats (docx, xlsx, pptx, etc) while I think you would agree saving these documents as JSON objects would be pretty stupid.

Take your example and add foreign character sets, formulas, and formatting. Now save it as a CSV.

Sometimes it's better to design for the future rather than for the minimal requirement for now.

That display/touch thingy on the left has an MSRP of around $3000. This one is secretly special and not yet public.

Also the 27" iMac has a Core i7 870 (4 core / 8 thread) and it has 16GB of RAM.

      Booyah.

I have a Magic Mouse, which I like.

Except when the Blue Tooth acts up (twice now).

I haven't played with the fan speed at all, and I shouldn't have to.

Windows 7 doesn't control fans...system drivers (BootCamp) should.

Apple has apparently decided that their customers would rather things were quiet than cool.

I don't agree with them, so I force the fan speed higher when I am doing having stuff.

They like it hotter because it shortens the lifespan of the product. Which means you'll buy a replacement once it dies.

My MacBook Pro died 2 days before its 3-year AppleCare expired last week. Pretty spectacular, how precise they can make it. They were just off by a few days.

My mother wants a mac now :-/

She recently caught a virus which erased all her excel files (and she had no backups ) and now wants nothing to do with PCs.

Good thing is that I'll be getting her current laptop

                    • I only have a i5 on my iMac.

And my i7 Desktop at home has some bit fried (haven't been brave enough to see which).

                        • gcc is godawful.

                          • true, but not relevant to distcc being pretty kickass even if it uses gcc.

A god boss is the one who lets me do what the **** I want to do but tells me what goals I need to reach to get my next big raise. I can usually do it and hate having someone look over my shoulder so just stfu, let me decide what the **** I want to do, and then tell me if I met the goals or not. One of the reasons I've stayed at my current employer so long is because they do that. I make the goals (or don't) and then they judge me during my annual revue while I more or less do what ever I want. Either I make enough money for you to justify my salary or I don't.
