To the extent they indicate poor economic policy, yes.

So wouldn't an increase in deportations indicate good immigration policy?

Yes. It's no different from using unemployment numbers to judge Obama's economic policy.

That made no sense at all. Deportation numbers are not indicative of an effective immigration policy, unemployment numbers ARE indicative of effective economic policy. WTF.

I thought the goals of illegal immigration policy were to prevent illegal immigration and deport the ones who do immigrate illegally? How are record deportations not a sign of success? How can you blame Obama for private individuals employing an abnormally low number of people but not give him credit for the federal government deporting more illegal immigrants? WTF.

Record deportations would be a sign of success if the border was secure, but it isn't. Most of those being deported are probably just coming right back.

If some of them don't, I guess it's a small improvement. And when the chances of getting deported are higher, there's probably less incentive to go through the trouble of immigrating illegally.

Ideally, they would self-deport because employers would be too scared to hire them. In that scenario, lower numbers of deportations could be considered a sign of success.

Deportation rate does not necessarily equate to the ratio of deportations per illegal alien.

If the mere numbers of deportation increase, but the liklihood of being caught is not likewise increasing the deterrent effect is likely nil.

People aren't happy about hard economic times, and blame the current administration. Had someone else won the situation would be almost identical- minus the racial bias from some elements of the right. And they're unhappy about overseas troop deployments.
