While coming from relatively humble backgrounds myself, I don't see this "only those that went through X can comment on Y " as productive. In fact, I am sure that Bugs wouldn't support such sayings from right-wing members of the military commenting on military affairs.

David Cameron can very well be the poshest dick in this galaxy, however I am plenty sure that he had very little to do with actually drawing the particulars of any such plan. In fact, the whole set of details in this plan make me feel as if this one of the most neutered youth work plans around.


Enlisting youths for public projects is great, and so is conscription. I see a very strong correlation between the extent of people's military service and their ability to get their **** together in later life here. And while clowning around will occur, The nil amount of true, real-life, not caused by "playground politics" challenges faced by teenagers today, makes them way too soft for real life. One of the greatest effects of this will be that posh dicks will get to meet and interact for long periods of time with simple people, which brings hope for the final demise of the social class system in Britain (not the economic class, mind you).

Apart from the guy on the bottom right and his neighbour who both look vaguely hard (not in that sense), I wouldn't want any of these people defending me against even a fluffy invasion. The one in the top middle looks about 50!

Mind you, if I was Israeli, they wouldn't have taken me for military service anyway, because I'm diabetic. But even so....

Joining the Army gives misguided and degenerate youths a place in society. My cousin was something of a tearaway, and is now one of the chief instructors in a special killing section of the army. He outgrew his youthful impulses to rebel, and is now a responsible father of two awesome lads and a respected (and feared? Ask the recruits. ) leader of the country's elite troops.

Despite being a pacifist, I'd have loved to join the army, but given my medical condition then I'd have been put on cooking duty at best. Although I'd love to walk, or march, into the recruiting office and claim that 17 years of playing Civ has given me a unique insight into tactics. "We haven't got enough howitzers! Retreat!"

Hell, I can only speak on the Marine Corps, but in basic training, God help you if a Drill Instructor sees you on your knees ever. Which actually made scuzing the deck annoying because it would have been easier to be on our knees. I hated cleaning from a squat or a one knee genuflection.
