So this is just government-mandated summer camp?

If so, I have to agree: that's a pretty ****ing stupid idea.

I'm not David Cameron but that is what it sounds like...

Participants will spend a minimum of 10 days and nights away from home, and activities are expected to include an outdoor challenge, a set of structured tasks involving visiting and helping the local community and, in consultation with local communities, designing a social action task.
10 days and nights away from home, doing outdoor activities and community service work... sounds like summer camp but with less sports and crafts and more graffiti cleanup or something.

It's not pretty ****ing stupid, HC. It has an admirable goal... bringing together kids from different parts of Britain and different backgrounds... that could do more good than anything an army of kids can do community service-wise. Might not be the best idea but it's hardly ****ing stupid. Too bad something like this would never work in the US.

It sounds like it'd be way more efficient to just hire them to perform menial labor. Same "blah blah people from different backgrounds", you get hopefully a nonzero amount of value out of them, and you develop actually useful basic skills.

              This phrasing makes me cringe.

You should've seen in the other thread when HC said something about intelligence and Kuci replied:

Oh, and then explain why we care about that more than "ability to generate wealth in a service economy".

AS, every time you try to pull this "he's so completely disconnected from reality" line it shows how little you understand the things actually being discussed.

Kuci, you reduce everything to measurable values with economic implications.
