Yep, black country accent is a bit different from brummie. It's more melodic and expressive, less whiny and adenoidal and altogether more interesting and agreeable. They sometimes say 'yam' and 'yow' instead of you, and are hence known as 'Yam-yams'.

Example : "Yam's a fooker".

Dudley (archetypal black country) is not part of Greater Birmingham, as there's no such place (officially). It's in the borough of Sandwell and while it is part of the conurbation of the West Midlands (so is Coventry) it is very much its own town.

I always considered Stoke to be the gateway to the North. South of it was the midlands, north of it was, well, barbarian, frankly.
