of course if you walk up to someone and say how do you pronounce berry they'd probably say it slowly and methodically like beh-ree but in the speed of colloquial conversation, especially when berry is part of a bigger word, the sound of it gets rushed and altered a bit. Although that is also probably true in the shorter word. Like if someone was just saying let me get one of those berries, they'd probably still say 'burry'. I don't know. Haven't really noticed this or given it much thought til now. The sundy/sunday thing though I have noticed and I pronounce my days of the week correctly but it is a Philly standard to say mondy, sundy, tuesdy, etc.
Do I say berry or burry? I bet it's hard to even tell. Listening to the recording, I can't really tell exactly though I don't expect anyone would have any difficulty knowing that I said strawberry.
