  • In drama class in high school, my teacher actually told the class to specifically listen to how I talk because she said I had such a great example of a Philly accent What's funny is that I don't do the 'youse' and 'wooder' for water that Philly is notorious for though.

    • I did write an English translation...

And Tolkien used Welsh as a template for Elven, not Dwarven...

        • Welsh Valleys...

They've done dozens of Star Wars clips (Taff Wars) dubbed into Valleys here on 'EweTube': http://www.taffwars.com/videos_taffwars.php

Some are hilarious, but they are in the minority...

The Valleys start 10 miles up the road from Cardiff...

          Tidy, like...

          • I preferred the Welsh.

            • That is a Welsh accent? Sounds like the standard British accent that they use on documentaries here in the US. The 'good' Brit accent that is understandable and implies intelligence to us silly Americans.

              • Sounds like Hugh Laurie a bit... also cool video because of the bizarre British slang terms.

                  Both slang terms are bizarre.

                  • Well to be fair, Ellen is using rap lingo that has gone extra extra mainstream to the point where it sounds so corny (surprised she didn't say fo shizzle). And her pronounciation of shawty is comical.

                    • I suppose the Brits will come in here and say that Mobius sounds nothing like Hugh Laurie because they're so aware of the subtle distinctions in their accents though probably don't pick up on the differences between Bostonian, Brooklyn, and Philly.

To us Americans, Mobius and Hugh Laurie are what we think of when we think of English accent and for some reason, it sounds intelligent to most Americans even though it's just a damned accent. Then there's the cockney 'guv'nor!' Dick van **** in Marry Poppins sort of accent which represents poor rabble to us Americans which some of you Brits (Buggs) seem to have.

I'm aware to you cockney might be something else entirely but it's what Americans tend to think of it as.

                      • Oh and by the way, that Hot Fuzz clip... even the third guy who explains what the first and second guy were saying... I have NO IDEA what he said. Chop something down? Brits have a definite problem with enunciation, except for the Mobius type. Dauphin is borderline. He has the accent but can not enunciate for crap.

                          • I agree Al that enunciation is sometimes lacking with British regional accents, but then personally I find a lot of NA accents to be tonally monotonous and difficult to follow the separate clauses or emphasis in speech.

That's why I quite like Canadian accents over generic American accents, they tend to have a bit less of this and are a bit 'slower' in tempo so are easier to discern what the speaker is trying to say.
