Let's just face it. The ONLY way Obama was elected was because of a perfect storm of dissatisfaction with the ongoing wars on Iraq and Afghanistan, COMBINED WITH the economic meltdown. The polls prior to September of 2008, remember, were favorable to McCain-Palin.

That's funny, Gallup gives me a totally different impression regarding "Obama-care".

How can anything supported by ~46% of Americans be out of the mainstream? How do two fifths of independents come to support something radical?

Maybe you're out of touch with the mainstream.

That's funny, because 53%-46% was pretty much the exact margin of the popular vote between Obama and McCain. And yet, that's considered a landslide for Obama.

        So which is it?

Additionally, you admit that the most favorable poll you can find for Obama care is only 46% favorable? And by definition 54% unfavorable?

The margin here is more like 49%-46%. And McCain was a mainstream candidate, so what's your point? That's an example of a mainstream thing getting 46% support.

46% favorable does not imply 54% unfavorable. It implies 54% unfavorable or neutral. And when the country is more or less evenly divided on something then I'd say both sides are mainstream positions.

That's certainly the most positive way to frame it up. Additionally, 46% favorable is on the HIGH end of the polls I've seen.

Also, if Obama-care was so mainstream, why was it so hard for the Democrats to gain a consensus even though they had a super-majority in the Senate and a solid majority in the House? Hell, it was Democrats who almost derailed the whole thing!

                  Newsweek:
When asked about Obama's plan (without being given any details about what the legislation includes), 49 percent opposed it and 40 percent were in favor. But after hearing key features of the legislation described, 48 percent supported the plan and 43 percent remained opposed.

Overall, 46 percent of those polled said they support the changes in the new law; 50 percent oppose them.

IMO, partly because of Republican obstructionism. Yeah, they couldn't have delayed it by themselves, but because of them even one dissenting Democratic senator could threaten the bill. Of course there were failures on the part of the Democratic party as well.

If you read my previous posts you'll note I wasn't condemning abortion, as I am pro-choice myself. I was however condeming the thought that no possible good outcome exists of a full term alternative and that those who say so are the narrow minded imbeciles.

togglecaps you are being a huge tool

also, people who oppose abortion but support exceptions for rape and incest are almost universally massive tools

Apparently Angle just gave her first non-conservative media interview tonight to respected local (Reno) political journalist and from what little I was able to watch, it seemed to be as much as a train wreck if not worse than Rand Paul's on Rachael Maddow's show.

Pretty much what DinoDoc said. While rape and incest are horrid, it's not the child's fault its father was a creep. I consider unborn children identical to infants for the purposes of rights. I'm okay with abortion being legal in cases of the life of the mother being endangered (lose one or lose both, no-brainer) and in cases of obviously fatal deformity (I don't think it's fair to force a mother to pray for a miracle).
