Yep. We're probably the last generation where the only acceptable business attire was suits. For casual fridays polo shirts were as casual as they allowed. And since I golf quite a bit, it was a good fit. Most of mine have golf course logos on them so they were quite a plus when it came to picking up women. They assumed you had money.

These days they're more common so they don't portray the status they used to.

Thank god, I don't rely on a geek web site for fashion advice. I'd be poor and single.

Not including the comments from the gay community of course.

Apparently the gay community here is the worst dressed. Alby is a fashionista.

Or worked for a tech company (which is west coast in style, typically).

Our office is business casual and 99% of the guys wear polo shirts...

That was implied. East Coast tech companies? Pshaw.

I bet even IBM has a more relaxed dress code than any bank anywhere.

for men: A combination of collared shirt (such as a dress shirt or polo shirt), cotton trousers (such as khakis or dress jeans) with a belt, and dress shoes (such as loafers) with socks is generally acceptable

It's 2010, KH & Drake. Get with it.

Back in the old days at the insurance company. The peons wore the button up shirts and upper middle managers and above wore golf shirts. I guess this could be another wolves vs lamb distinction.
