YES. The American "football" is the Lady Gaga of sport. A freak version of the real football.

It's a brilliant idea. Plus the matches could last the days like cricket, A REAL ENDURANCE SPORT...none of this 90 minute ****.
If goalies won't be allowed to run and jump that will be a goal fest, 'cause every shot on goal will be leathal. Performance of the goalies will be the funniest thing to watch, I guess.

Goalies would be given a large umbrella to compensate.

Or did you not understand how the metabolic profile for soccer players resembles mid-distance runners, not long-distance runners?

By saying that soccer players are closer to sprinters than marathon runners, I was contradicting my own point of the lack of athleticism of soccer players relative to American football players or basketball players.
Soccer players are not closer to sprinters than marathon runners. They run over ten km per game. Sprinters, my ass. They need both stamina and speed.

            Umm... again...

            1) you're not helping your argument because marathon runners are crappy overall athletes... therefore, you're saying that soccer players are crappy athletes...

            2) The metabolic profiles which I referenced seem to indicate that soccer players resemble mid-distance runners in metabolic activity, not long-distance runners...

            3) 10K is not very long distance. You do realize a marathon is 42+K? 10K distance-wise is closer to 100m than it is to 42K (although the metabolic demands are different than 100m obviously)

            • How the **** 10K is closer to 100m than it is to 42K is beyond me.

              • Again, Serb:

Who do soccer players more closely physically resemble? Who is the more functional athlete?

Umm... I said distance-wise... you do realize that the distance between 100m and 10K is 9,900m but the distance between 10K and a marathon is 32,000m?

                  • and shutup. that was just a smartass comment on my part because obviously, the physical demands are different between 100m and 10K (Although the demands of 10K are a bit different than a marathon).

More important is the fact that by claiming that soccer players resemble marathon runners, you are implying that they are less functional athletes.

                      Obviously the marathoner.

                      Apples and oranges.

You do realize that 42K is just 4.2 times bigger than 10K (42K= 10K*4.2), while 10K is 100 times a longer distance than 100m (10K=100m*100)?

                        • What soccer players are you seeing?

I know it sounds gay but look at the thighs... the thighs is where there is a notable physical difference between sprinters and marathoners. Soccer players wear shorts that don't let you see it clearly, but their thighs clearly more resemble sprinters (not to mention that they have upper body's more reminiscent of sprinters than scrawny marathoners)

                          • serb its obvious that footballers in general are built more like a mid distans runner then a marathoner. stamina is a skill that is need more in football then the american sports but they also need to be explosive. you also need to be strong for the *infighting, not as strong as a hockey player or american footballer, but you cant be a push over either.

*for the life of me i coulnt figure out what i should call a "närkamp". the dictionarys gave me infighting but it just sounds wrong.

What do you mean apples and oranges? Who is more capable of doing anything else besides running? Obviously, the sprinter can squat and deadlift more... he can lift and push and pull more with his arms... he can jump higher and longer... by every measure (except running long distances), sprinters are typically superior to marathoners.
