Obviously there was over-hype, which it appears that some die hard soccer fans are most definitely guilty of (there is a set of US soccer fans who are completely delusional and think that the sport is ready to take off, but the media is conspiring against it, etc).

Soccer is bad for the media, 'cause there are no commercial breaks in soccer alike in hockey for example.

Serb, you do realize that if you claim that soccer players have an affinity with marathon runners, you are effectively stating that they are crappy athletes. What part of the whole sprinters are physically superior to and more physically capable in every mode of human endeavor than marathon runners did you not understand? Or did you not understand how the metabolic profile for soccer players resembles mid-distance runners, not long-distance runners?

By saying that soccer players are closer to sprinters than marathon runners, I was contradicting my own point of the lack of athleticism of soccer players relative to American football players or basketball players.
