When I lived there for four years (well before an age where I paid income tax or could even work), they recognized me as an American citizen and only my mother needed a visa.

I spent six months in LA when I was a child and never had a visa. I don't think my mother did either. At that time the border was pretty open. Work would have been another issue.

When we went on our class trip to Europe there was another Canadian girl in our trip who had no American citizenship at all. The customs people gave her a ***** of a time in NY (our entry point during a layover) because they couldn't find any record of her visa in the system, so they weren't going to let her in. They had to call the parents and sorted it out, I can't remember what the problem was.

You should be able to get some sort of residency based on employment or needed skills in BC or Alberta. Citizenship is not too hard after that.

I never ended up getting paid in USD as a US worker, my work in New York was always weekly trips for "meetings" (what we told the customs people). I flew in Monday morning and flew out Friday evening.

My salary was always in CDN and I was always based out of the Toronto office. Even when I worked for Lehman for those two years, I worked for Lehman under my Toronto company.

The H1-B questions were for other projects that I'd be eligible for, but never actually did. They did a lot of US government contracts which required H1-Bs.

I'd be inclined to claim it. Life lasts a long time from where you are, and you never know what may happen.

You could always renounce it later if Bush III gets elected, but then you might want to already have it when the Montana National Guard is sent to secure the energy fields and the White Patriot Act of 2020 changed citizenship laws making it almost impossible to claim.
