Most of what I read attributed it to record oil prices (starting back in 2008) generating over a quarter million new jobs in the oil business alone and the taxes generated is what led to the surpluses.

My life is great.Originally posted by Ghaladh View PostHoly cow, KrazyHorse, surely life must have been hard for you for making such a bitter character of you, or perhaps is some sort of Turette's syndrome that brings you to call names anyone who disagree with you.
I feel like you are a deluded guy with a terrible inferiority complex, by considering your ramblings about how skilled you are and how stupid are the others that write things that do not suit with what you know.
I never saw such extensive use of asterisks to hide words that you unlikely use commonly with your (very probably few) friends.
I didn't use asterisks to hide anything, boy. There is an autocensor which I choose not to circumvent.
I let the discussion die about how rude you was, since "what the hell are you talking about" is a rude thing to say in my book, but since you inveigh against everyone, I ask myself if really you read your own posts or if you have at least the basic knowledge of how a polite conversation should be held, too.
I don't particularly care what you think should constitute a "polite conversation". I'm the only one here who provided you with useful information. Feel free to thank me.
Is like that the way you behave with the people who interact with you in real life? If so, I hope you are a trained boxing champion, otherwise you will spend most of your time in the emergency lane at the hospital.
Most people in real life have the common sense to shut the **** up when they're obviously less informed, and choose not to insult my wife to my face. Those who don't do the former get run over by me in pretty much the same manner I do here. Those who do the latter are in for an unpleasant surprise.
I still would like to know from where you are, because I am sure that immigration is not such a "easy nuisance" to you, at the opposite of what you said.
My immigration process took 3 weeks of living my regular life while a professional immigration lawyer worked on my behalf. The only real nuisance lay in having to fax copies of all my documents to said lawyer.
Returning on topic, I am curious to know about how a state can work with such low tax-rate. Italy is surely not the most shining example of good administration, but I can't imagine how can a country be run without a large amount of money from the tax-payer.
I'm sure you can't. That's precisely why Italy is such a basket-case.
Perhaps the government of Texas held some sort of nationalized companies to maintain a constant income? Can it be?

I can stay in USA with a turistic permit, without necessarily fighting to find my place in there.
No, you can't. Tourist entries are extended for only 6 months IIRC. You will have to apply as a J2 if your girlfriend is on a J1.
After Dallas we plan to go back in Europe (actually we have to, since when her permit expires we will be forced to go back).
More than that, I have a friend in San Diego that I helped in the past. He obtained the US citizenship by marrying a American woman and he's the owner of a small disco-music publishing company (I don't know the company's name). He offered to return the favor I did to him in the past, by giving me his sponsorship (kindness always pays back, gotcha KH? ;-) ). Once I am a regular worker in the USA, it will be easier to move to another state.
Thanks for admitting intended visa fraud on the internet.
One of my ex-girlfriends lives in New York and she owes me one as well.
Another ex of mine is actually married with a Italian diplomat in Washington that can help me with burocracy. I maintened excellent relationships with almost all of my ex (kindness always pays back, gotcha KH? ;-) ).
a) Who needs kindness? I just win all the time.
b) You have some real ****ing deluded notions of what's going to help you, son.
I fear I will never obtain citizenship in the USA since I am filed as a left-wing extremist in my country (it's a long story), but for what I have to do in the USA, I will not meet big problems anyway.
Why am I not surprised by this? You're an unemployed commie would-be novelist from Italy living off your girlfriend's salary and trying to fraudulently obtain a visa to work in the US.

Of course! Sincerely, the only thing you said, is that I should forget about it. Is that useful?Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostI don't particularly care what you think should constitute a "polite conversation". I'm the only one here who provided you with useful information. Feel free to thank me.
Well, at least in Italy, if you have no money, you can still be cured in a hospital and receive your cares. There are more defects that virtues, but I am quite proud of the Italian health system. I undestand you are an elitist, and I would not be surprised if you come out of the blue by saying that who is not able to earn money, then doesn't deserve to be cured. I think I get the kind of person you are.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostReturning on topic, I am curious to know about how a state can work with such low tax-rate. I already know that. I can remain 6 month and then go back in Italy, waiting for the renewal. As I said, I don't really need to work in the USA. It would be better, but is not necessary at all.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostI can stay in USA with a turistic permit, without necessarily fighting to find my place in there.

When did I spoke about a fraud?Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostThanks for admitting intended visa fraud on the internet.

You surely have a high opinion of yourself and of your knowledge. So foolishly to say to a resident that he is wrong about his country. And still I don't know where are you from...Originally posted by KrazyHorse View Posta) Who needs kindness? I just win all the time.

At the opposite of you, I do not go bragging around in any thread about on how skilled I am, how rich I am, how lucky I am... I will tell you only once and I hope you get the hint: I don't really need to work. Gotcha?Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostWhy am I not surprised by this? Let's say that I am acting looking to the future, planning carefully my expenses and trying to use the money on my bank-account as less as possible. Said in more simple words... I inherited a small fortune. Is clear now? If you want to blame me, do because I am a spoiled and lazy person, not much willing to fight for anything; I openly admit it, I know my defects, but please, keep your vilenesses for yourself.

Sounds like a ****hole!Originally posted by Riesstiu IV View PostI think you'll be in for a culture shock though if you are coming from Switzerland/Italy to the urban sprawl of DFW.
Be warned, there really aren't that many interesting things to do around the city itself. The museums are disappointing compared to other big cities and downtown Dallas is a ghost town after business hours.
Summers are awful. It gets very humid and very hot. The winter, fall, and early spring are pleasant enough though.
But then we are talking about Texas...

That's the point. This is the reason why I do not brag about it. I grew as a not so well off member of the working class, son of a Radicalist civil-rights activist and a anarchic painter. If you add to the load the fact that my grandfather's brother (the one from who I inherited) was a corrupt right-wing politician, you can easily understand why I do not brag about it.Originally posted by MikeH View PostUgh. I would be hypocritical if I continue to profess my political ideas and that's why I wrote "I am filed as" and not simply that "I am" a left-wing extremist.
As I said, I can be blamed for a lot of things, but surely not for the indegnities fancied by KH.The destination doesn't matter. What's important is the journey.

Why are you acting so defensive, Ghaladh? You will not be able to improve KH's character, so your moralizing will have no impact. Like he said, he's the only person in this thread so far who has given you practical advice.
Regarding an apartment, I imagine that you can pretty easily find a two bedroom apartment in a reasonable area of Dallas for a good price. Try looking at craigslist for a better sense of the prices.
craigslist provides local classifieds and forums for jobs, housing, for sale, services, local community, and events
E.g., 2 bedroom apt in Richardson, http://dallas.craigslist.org/search/...son&bedrooms=2
Looks like the market is about $1,200 a month for a nice two bedroom that is suitable for somebody pulling down $4,000 a month. Maybe people here from Dallas will be able to confirm this.
As to the taxes, like much of state and local government in the US, the Texas government may be incompetent in areas, but for the most part, it's still good, clean, accountable government that doesn't overreach.Last edited by DanS; June 8, 2010, 12:35.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
