Those are really the most precious hints that can make the difference, especially considering that coming from Europe, we are not going to bring the car along with us. I saw the 4 different light rail tracks and all of them converge at Victory Station. Very useful.

Why should you? My wife and I are both in high skill professions, so immigration **** is an annoyance rather than an actual barrier (like the one you will face)

Come on, with plenty of foreigners actually linving and working in the USA, by reading what you write, it seems that is impossible to accomplish. Perhaps you have been unlucky, but I know of many foreigners that did it. If I will not be successfull, though, I will have other options.

Perhaps you have difficulty reading. You should fit right in with what I know of Dallas.

I have and will never have a problem with work authorizations, other than the annoyance and wait times. Applying for a low-skill occupation like IT help desk, you will encounter extraordinary difficulty. Most of the foreign-born people working in the US are there through family connections (being married to a J-1 does not help you with work authorization). Only a relatively small number are there due purely to employer petition. The cost and inconvenience to employers who sponsor foreigners for work authorization ensures that this remains the case.

What you would almost certainly need is H1-B authorization. As I'm assuming you do not hold a graduate degree from a US institution, and would not be working for a research nonprofit, you would go in the general pool of applicants whose numbers are strictly limited by federal law.

When unemployment is high, this in itself does not pose a problem, except in that when unemployment is high, companies can choose from a large number of applicants who AREN'T going to cost them thousands of dollars extra + 3 months of wait time. When unemployment is low, the pool gets crowded with Indians and the cap is reached on the first day the slots become available (in April, for employment starting in September).

I don't think you understand quite how difficult employment-based immigration to the US is. It's far more restrictive than any other developed country which I'm aware of.

This isn't a question of just having to jump through hoops. This is a question of it LITERALLY BEING IMPOSSIBLE for you to get an employer to sponsor you.

Six years ago I already tried to move in the USA, for no serious reasons, I must say, so I already met the "barrier" you are speaking about. You are right.
I know it will be hard, but I invite you to do not underestimate the Italian creativity ;-). I have friends, compatriots and contacts in the USA that will be able to help me in a way or another.

I know a couple guys who started off in Texas before moving to Toronto. Is it masochism?
