What? I'm not understandng this sentence. Navy Seals were involved in the boarding?
Earlier, in the article there is a Staff Sergeant (NOT a Navy Seal therefore because that's not a Navy rank although he could be part of some MARSCOC detachment? I'm not sure how that works; more likely, he's IDF) saying that his officers were wounded and their weapons taken away from them... Those were the only guns I could figure out that the people on the ship had. Were those officers not IDF but Navy Seals?

I'm assuming they're Israeli Navy Seals. It's probably just an inaccurate term they use to describe the IDF Navy's elite forces.

Well I googled Flotilla 13 and yeah, it's apparently Israeli Naval Special Forces.
That's very disingenous of the Times. Navy SEALS are a specific force within the US Navy. Flotilla 13 is something else (Shayetet 13 to be exact)

So it seems most of the killing was done by a single "berzerk"
I have no reason to criticise him, it seems he did the only reasonable thing, given the situation his superiors had put him into, opening fire to save his captured buddies from a reckless lynch mob.
But the IDF had no reason and no right to be there in the first place. This was far outside Israels area of jurisdiction.
Another but is that some activists obviously asked to become martyrs even before they knew it was going to get rough. Others might have joined in the fight with improvised clubs and kitchen knifes to save their ship from the obviosly unwelcome and unlawful intruders.
However, what upsets me most right now is the claim I heard today, that there were about 60 journalists on board the ships. Naturally, they where looking for an expected scoop, no matter their personal political views. And all of them got their documentation of the incident confiscated and destroyed by Israel.
So basically, a country that claims to be a western-style democracy that promotes a free press, kidnapped a large number of independent journalists, far outside the country's own borders, and hindered the journalists in their profession.

Why is anybody surprised by this? Israel is a ****ty excuse for a liberal democracy, and has very little respect for the limits of their own sovereignty.
I care a lot less about the sensibilities of some overprivileged little toff than I do about 9 people dead for no good reason I can ascertain.
Just imagine the violence that would've been certain had those wooden clubs and cement mix made it ashore.
