I'm a descendant of Stephen Hopkins, one of the non-pilgrim "Strangers" on the Mayflower. He was recruited to help govern the settlement. He signed the Mayflower Compact and was at one point in his life sentenced to death for attempting to start a mutiny.

Part Huguenot, part Scot, part Welsh and probably some other things on my dad's side; I read a few years back that an ancestor in the early 1600s was arrested or fined or something for selling booze to the natives on a Sunday. Don't know if it's true, but it's awesome if it is. Also, I'm Clan Stewart, which I think might make me vaguely related to the British royal family. Unfortunately, that's nothing to be proud of, and the clan has a billion branches anyway.
