There are people who are in eighth grade and are already fathers.

There are people who have a child but sleep on the floor in some friend's home, working a part-time job, when they could just use their friend's generosity to take care of their child while they attend night school... she only got a year left before her diploma...

There are people who repeat their grade because they don't have enough credits to get to the next grade, but refuse to go to school on Saturdays where they could easily make up the credits and graduate normally.

There are people who are rich as **** and live perfect lives in their perfect little homes and go around drinking, smoking weed, and having sex with guy after guy, thinking they are feeling love, or, half the time, not even giving a damn about love.

There are people who are obviously very intelligent but for some damn reason decide to go have children or stand on the corner for some middle aged drug dealer.

There are people who see drug dealers everyday and know who the **** they are but never say **** to nobody and act like they don't exist, as if they're not a problem. There's more people in the neighbourhood than damn dealers...

There are people who wander around the alleys behind row homes, foaming at the mouth, obviously straight up high, and asking me if I got any weed or crack on me to sell them... What the ****?

There are people who get high and drunk at night and wander the alleys, shooting their gats randomly. Why?!

There are people who play bball in the playgrounds but bring their glocks and line them up and are already busting if they lose or get fouled.

There are police who spend their times chasing down teenage loiters and weed smokers while ****ing ignoring everything else.


Maybe I'm a nut but people disillusion me. What the hell kind of world do we live in?

never understood this... why is it that when someone is trying to make something of themselves by going to college and all that some people start saying they selling out or trying to act white and all that? makes no sense... to try to succeed means you selling out?

is this kind of idea prevalent in other areas or is it just a lower-class thing?

Exaggerating what? Everything I said is true and represented people I knew. I don't recall now who this person was though but it's been 8 years:

I know I didn't make that up (a little too specific to make up) but I don't remember who I knew in 2002 that fit this.

Add one more question to my list. I had a friend, D.J., who was senselessly murdered in Apr. 2008 because of an argument about a car a friend of his was selling or something.

I had another friend, D.M., who was also senselessly murdered in July 2009 when he was driving and a guy on a bike fired 12 shots into the driver's side of his car, murdering him, he slumped over and the car crashed into oncoming traffic.

My question is not why they were murdered but why did the newsmedia paint them both as hoods and thugs?! Both of them were going to ****ing college! D.M. had a 1 year old son! And his son will look back at the paperclippings of his father's murder and see them talk about how his father was arrested years before his murder! For what? How does an arrest as an 18 year old have anything to do with the fact that the man was murdered and you tarnish his name?!

Explain that one to me.

All right, enough of this thread for me.

AS, the homicide rate in Philly is ~22 per 100k per annum. That means that 1 in 5000 people are murdered every year. Now, let's multiply it by 10 because you grew up in a ****ty neighbourhood and your friends were likely young, black males. On the other hand, the claim is that they were attending college. The chances of two of your "friends" being murdered are pretty slim, unless you actively chose to associate with people participating in the drug trade.
