The reason I can't stand pop-punk is it completely lacks complexity, and the only emotion it has is bluster and stereotypical, repetitive angsty counter-establishment bull****. If it's not about spilling apple juice and parental acceptance (Blink 182, "Adam's Song") In short, it's insincere.
I have to disagree with you here on personal grounds, asher. Adam's Song is the only redeeming feature of Blink 182. I used to be friends with Adam Knapp, though, who the song is about.

        • If you have a personal connection to the song, I don't doubt it'd mean more to you.

FWIW it is their best song, which is why it's the only one I remember. Still not a fan though.

            • i've been a long time hater of blink 182 as well (bunch of *******s). it sounded like you were questioning the sincerity of that song specifically, but i do realize that you were generalizing.

I chose that song because of the bit about apple juice.

                • Adam's song made me cry when I First heard it. The apple juice is to emphasize how young the kid is and how he does not understand the whorld which is more complicated than he wants to grasp. Believe it or not Asher you were once a teenager with angst issues instead of a gay yellow phone book consultant with angst issues.

                  • Have you ever considered that you may just be a *****?

I understand the use of apple juice there. I also understand teenage angst.

Pop-Punk is for the kids. It's a very simple, very superficial kind of music that is okay when you're starting to develop an appreciation for music. As people get older and listen to more music, their tastes become more refined. They look for more things in their music, **** like "American Idiot" or Blink 182, Sum 41, Simple Plan, etc are all so simple and superficial that they're nauseating to anyone with any real musical taste.

And when they get a bit more mature they realise that sometimes simplicity can also be beautiful. Also Green Day's rhythm section are brilliant.

I've never seen anything to suggest you have any musical taste. You just moved from kid friendly pop rock to adult friendly pop rock.

                        • Watched "community" pilot, didn't think it was so hot. Maybe I'll give another episode a go though.

                          • The pilot was probably the worst episode they've aired. A couple episodes in the middle of the season were mediocre, but everything else has been gold. Funniest network comedy currently on the air, probably the best since Arrested Development.

                            • Also Abed is the greatest secondary character on TV today (though I guess an argument can be made that it is an ensemble like "Friends" or "Seinfeld", but so far I think its been somewhat established that Jeff is the primary character... for now).

                              • On the subject of dubious music, can anyone explain to me the appeal of Amy Winehouse? I heard all this stuff about her "uniquely beautiful voice," and borrowed Back to Black expecting something like the nasal-voiced Katharine Whalen from the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Instead I hear what sounds like a white woman trying very hard to sound like a black man. I can't hear her sing without immediately thinking of that part in "Spaceballs" where they stumble across the princess singing black spirituals.
