For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

The government won't to do any better. Any true small-government believer would know that. Anyone who understands the complexities of the situation should know that.

I should also point the "untrustworthy" and "ineffectual" argument you're using sounds like an argument someone may make to demolish the HMO/privatized health care system and develop a fully socialized health care system.

I agree that in this kind of situation, the government's role should be to make sure the corporation cleans up the mess and pays for the damage. The government shouldn't be running the clean up if it can avoid it.

To echo Oerdin's point, BP is taking care of this because it's the only one that can. Obama is right to let them do the heavy lifting.

                ...

Obama is also right for blaming them for the accident and making them pay for the damage done; he's wrong for accusing them of not doing the heavy lifting fast enough, and threatening to take over from them is just plain stupid.

IT's not about political parties here. JESUS. OIL is washing up on the coast and the government's response is to put together a commission. I don't care who is in office, this is a disaster that's going to take a decade to clean up.
The fishing industry will probably take longer to recover. The human tragedy will be huge in the long term. To say this is small potatoes compared to Katrina is silly. I'll bet the overall damage will be larger in the long run.

And your comments are about Republican inconsistencies...........I though the democrats were the party of compassion.

The government simply can't do a better job. It's the ****ing government.

They can't do anything right. Ever been to the DMV?

Why would we put these clowns in charge of anything?

Yes, it's a disaster. Yes, things need to happen. No, the government can't help aside from what they've already done. Yes, you are making the government a scapegoat.

This is BP's problem, it's BP's mess to clean up. If BP needs federal assistance, they can request it and I'm sure Obama would oblige -- and bill them for the costs, as he should.

Republicans are into big government. Not for me, thanks.

The bigger the government, the tighter the red tape binds.

And BP has done a great job stopping the flow.

It's been a month. And the government has assembled a committee. WOW.

They should gather together enough Republicans politicians to plug the hole. Get some good use out of them.
