My compsci teacher is going to be getting a PhD next year in computational fluid dynamics while simultaneously getting paid to teach at the university he's getting it from, and the work he's doing on his thesis is also for the state department I think. Considering his job at the moment is teaching at a high school, that doesn't sound like much of an opportunity cost.

Interesting thread, I could certainly use a hand with getting my PhD what with all the retardedness. I liked my MEng student, right up to the bit with the deadline for his dissertation which passed without any contact from him to me, despite my hand-holding. Well done that man!
