I hear "agriculture specializing in gender" works pretty well.

            I must be missing something.

This thread is supposed to be about making fun of my thesis advisor. And me too, for not going to greater lengths to find someone else.

"The author provides a rather detailed description of the data analysis process used in this study, but does not relate his data analysis strategy to the common and well-known strategies described in the published literature."

So common that few research papers mention it, and those that do won't give a detailed description of their analysis as well (this is an either or thing ****!). So common that he didn't point this out in the draft that I sent him a month ago. So common that the ****ing dean of the school told me to not mention it by name and instead write a detailed description of what I did.

Connect your "literature review" section to your "data analysis" section, if only via common citations. You might want to make it more explicit than that.

You can't just assume that people will see how your methodology connects explicitly to your particular analysis.

He loved my lit review. Everyone did. Besides my methodology is really the only option for this type of study. All he wanted was for me to mention two words that the dean told me to take out. It's obvious what I did. If someone couldn't recognize it then by just putting those two words, they wouldn't know what I was talking about. I'm so looking forward to talking to the dean about this on Monday.

                      What two words.

Anyway, if they loved your lit-review then it is no surprised they want to see it more than alluded to in the data analysis. I had to scrap most of my 'methodology' and just go with 'methods' for my MSc thesis, as even then analysis and not description was key. Based on limited comment, I recommend a streamlined methodology, very specific methods and tie it all into data analysis (be gaudy about it, if they love your lit-review so).

ps. Does your lit review cite them, or just their favorites?

It was alluded to in the analysis. He's just whining about the methods because he's too stupid to understand the analysis.

There's a fine line between methodology and methods. Methods serve as a transition from theory (methodology) to analysis.

This, in my experience, is commonly muddy water in academia. It's easy enough to separate theory and actual methods and then carry them clearly into analysis, but people have problems seeing it when others do it.

Our school has pretty clear criteria for it. They just want to know how you did it. The whys are in the lit review. But the bulk of the study should be in the analysis and discussion.
