It doesn't make you giddy, or happy, or drunk, or numb. Properly prescribed, it just keeps you from feeling like stepping into traffic for no reason.

        SSRIs

They really really helped me. At first I was worried I was going to depend on a pill for the rest of my life, but given the state I was in at the time, I thought that any help would be good, even if I did have to take it for the rest of my life. My parents really helped in being supportive and encouraging me to see a psychiatrist.

Here a GP will prescribe you an anti depressent if you say the wrong things. having thoughts of suicide is one of these things that will get you offered medication. Im curious if your shrink had asked you leading questions.

I want to offer my experiences but am concerned about influencing you as I have no idea about your specific situation.

Ive taken a number of different anti depressents. The times when I have been first prescribed and my body has been learning to tolerate the drug have truly been the worst times in my life. These 'gaining tolerance' episodes last around 3 months. Whether those rock bottom times have been because of the medication or because thats when i needed the meds the most is something I will never know. unfortunately the drug companies can use the same logic....this person feels bad because he is depressed, not because of our drug.

As I said I am reluctant to offer advice, but my opinion is that you should only take drugs/seek remedial therapy if its something you think you need, and you think you are struggling to cope. be honest with yourself, if times are toughest and you are really low then reach out for the help that is there

When you 'gained tolerance', did ease into the medication? I was only ever on one (Celexa) but it wasn't a big deal. I went from quarter pills for a few weeks, to half pills for a few weeks, to whole pills for a month, to two pills a day ongoing. If you go right from 0 to 1 or 2 pills you will definitely have a hard time.

Yeah, I started gradually as well.

Even when I missed a whole week of pills I didn't go back to my old dose, I had to lower it and ease back to my full dosage.

I got frequent headaches on the first days after upping the dose, but that's about it.

Today was my first day this morning taking Lexapro using the sample I have. All I suffered from in terms of side effect so far, was slight nausea which went away in less than an hour.

Combination of both is good, but start the pill popping now. Dammit man, think of my share prices!

Yeah, I'm gonna have to second that. If you want something that says "holy crap am I ever gay," just put "holy crap am I ever gay" in white letters against a black background and make that your avatar. Same purpose, less queasy for your straight friends on Poly.

But I don't have any friends on Poly to worry about offending any. So my avatar can stay.

                                Thirded. (Is that a word?)

Though FWIW it's easy enough for me to just give the benefit of the doubt and assume they're a couple of boxers or MMA guys about to beat the everloving **** out of each other, which is about as hetero as you can get. Unless they're professional wrestlers, which would be unequivocally ghey... sigh, back to square one.
