Maybe KH has the magic touch for Goldman like I did for Lehman.

Goldman's reputation is important to its long-term success (see Salomon Brothers), especially since the regulatory table is being set right now for the next generation. The negative press surrounding this case will at least cause doubt about its ethics. Also, you never know what additional charges will show up once you start looking at e-mails.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Doesn't the SEC already have CID authority? I'd have thought everyhing discoverable would already be in their hands before actually filing in the district court...
                Unbelievable!

I'm assuming they do. But as the SEC ramps up the staffing on the case, all of the documents will get more scrutiny.

True. Bates labels 1 through gadzillion will be a fun read for those lowly 2L clerks...

Goldman gives the American government orders, not the other way around. You can be sure that whatever financial regulation reforms are eventually made will be good for Goldman.

Anyone think this might be politically motivated somehow? The timing right after the healthcare polling slump just seemed a bit too perfect at first, but as you said, this admin's as much in Goldman's pocket as any so I doubt it...

This is a fed case, so he would most likely stay at the tombs, not rikers - until found guilty of course, and then its off to club fed.

And having been to Rikers, its never nice there....

During times of extreme crisis a few heads of the oligarchs have to roll to satiate the public's bloodlust. Usually ones on the lower rungs, but every now and then a real player makes a mistake and gets the guillotine. Figuratively speaking.
