No, you ****wit. I said that the inability to quantify it is filosofy. Measurement uncertainty is always part of the game.

As always, you manage to astound me with your stupidity

Total yardage for Tim Tebow last year = objective fact.

Total impact of 1 ton of carbon emission = largely arbitrary number.
        Are you honestly this stupid?

        • By the way, even in the presence of uncertainty as to the optimal pricing of factor externalities, putting in our best guess is obviously superior to attempting to decide individually what our preferences mean at the end of the production chain. The aggregation problem is separate from the basic measurement issue.

This is so blindingly obvious that you should be embarrassed I had to point it out to you.

            • You don't understand, when there is a lot of measurement uncertainty the underlying value becomes subjective.

It's nice to think we've got it all figured out and know exactly what does what but the unforunate truth is we don't. That's the first step... realizing how much we don't know. Environmental science (or "Impact Science") is a relatively new discipline. Only in the last couple decades have universities begun to offer multidisciplinary graduate degrees, so that we can begin to quantify environmental impacts including the economic, social and ecologic factors.

That's why I'm gonna teach public highschool. To give back and to talk-up this new discipline, in hopes of science garnering the next Sylvia Earle or Rachel Carson.

Let's be honest and realistic about our knowledge.

Your degrees are jokes. Agriculture specializing in gender?

To be fair, environmental policy is all the rage now. But it's still the engineers who are reaping most of the benefits.

                          You're being charitable.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I came *this* close to getting sent to the principal for commenting on how pesticides had dramatically increased the number of specialists in the economy. My science teacher (who grew up in afghanistan) told me that if I were in Afghanistan, I would have had "ten sticks broken over my back by now." I snarkily (and, IMO, correctly) replied that it was "reason number 436 not to live in Afghanistan."
