    I read your p3 and didn't see anyone claiming building standards dont save lives, just a few posters pointing out that people are limited by their wealth and poor nations cant afford the best technology. We live outside of city codes (very little out here) and we built + cost - the contractors made a % on top of the matls we generally bought thru them (sop) but we decided on the matls. And we over built the city codes, had to, excessive clay in the ground translates into a thicker concrete foundation.

        Oerdin miscalculated in his leap to conclusions, but libertarians are by and large pro-laisse faire capitalism and l-f capitalism's quest for the bottom of the bottom line is checked only by the consumer, who may be misinformed or intentionally misled. So he's not too far off the mark.
