I'm pretty sure Riess is not married and I'm curious why MrFun thinks otherwise.

So he's lying to me? That ****ing figures.

No, Asher, you just have no talent when it comes to actually making your point. You bring up a Yemenese issue to try to challenge Ozzy about his positions, I point out that the societies are so different that a legitimate comparison may not be possible, and then you devolve it into some ridiculous and obviously incorrect argument about universal law. You were the one who took this in the direction of the absurd and abstract.

That's even before we bring up the fact that, AFAIK, Ozzy has never advocated unlimited rights for people of all ages. He just believes that we should consider people adults several years before we currently do, and extend some rights down even further. Which makes the 9-year-old brides a big old strawman.

I thought Riess made a thread not too long ago announcing a recent wedding? Maybe I am not recalling correctly and confused him with someone else.

Gold, coming from an estoteric intellectual poseur.

I would be utterly shocked if anyone in this thread cannot understand my point. On the other hand, I'm fairly certain most people here find your pedantry obnoxious and off-point.

It cannot possibly be a strawman considering it's something from the original ****ing post, Kuci. I was clearly asking for clarification from Ozzy on where he stands on this issue, which I have not yet received.

Perhaps you were confused by my simple, unassuming words:
Where do you stand on this, Ozzy?

I'm curious where Ozzy stands in terms of marriage, child labour, pedophilia, etc.

I'm wondering where Ozzy draws the line here, that's it.

I'm afraid you've become lost in your own argument here. I've very clearly started this thread to probe where Ozzy would define limits, and I've expressed my opinion on where they should be drawn. For some reason I cannot fathom, you've decided to pretend we're in some formal philosophical essay on moral relativism vs moral absolutism.

I honestly don't give a **** about Yemen, but the issue there got me thinking about where Ozzy would draw the line. That's why this thread is here. I'm very sorry if you were incapable of understanding the clear intent.

It's easy enough to say we should grant the same rights to children as adults, but what about the real ramifications. Things like child labour, child marriage, pedophilia, etc.

There are a fair number of salient differences between American and Yemenese societies.
In retrospect, here is where you went off track.

When I used the word "we", I am clearly referring to Canada/USA and not to Yemen. I do not associate myself with Yemen. I was using the Yemen issue as a starting point to ask Ozzy where he would draw the line.

Considering he advocates for youth rights in the USA and I referred to the laws as ones we have, I thought this would make it abundantly clear that I was not referring to Yemenese laws in this instance. I apologize for not being pointlessly verbose.

You are thinking of the joke thread he posted about how he got married to the ugliest woman in the world. I still can't believe anyone here believed it, considering the guy in the picture looks nothing like the guy in his profile pic.

All that was necessary was for you to say "sure, but I still think it's bad in the US/Canada and want to know how Ozzy stands". Instead, you claimed that the social differences were irrelevant.

Irrelevant to my point. Which they are.

As Ozzy has yet to post in this thread at all, I think you should try again later, or maybe bug him via PM.

Whoops, yes he did, it just devolved into a dick-measuring contest. That'll teach me to review threads better before posting.
