I've only heard of one band from either of your lists, and that's only because Vampire Weekend was formed by Columbia undergrads. I've never listened to any of the bands on either list.

Ben Kenobi is probably more popular than most of the bands Laz likes.
Popularity isn't necessarily related to quality in the arts. But some of the more obscure bands that push boundaries will eventually see some of their influence trickle down to the mainstream.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
