  • Ron Paul returns $100k to Treasury

Plenty of Congress critters talk about cutting spending, the good doctor actually does it.

Congressman Paul Returns Over $100,000 to Treasury

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul has continued to run his Congressional office in a frugal manner, and was able to return more than $100,000 from his allotted office budget to the Treasury this year, an increase over the $90,000 returned last year.

“Since my first year in Congress representing the 14th district I have managed my office in a frugal manner, instructing staff to provide the greatest possible service to the people of the 14th district at the least possible cost to taxpayers,” said Paul.

Too bad the GOP owns him. I'd like to see him run as a libertrian with a green VP.

Yes, Ron Paul is one of the least hypocritical Congresscritters.

Would a combined ticket provide both parties TV access with 5%, or would it be a different party?

        Paul (lib) / Kucinich (green)

We could give Ralph a cabinet seat and Hillary can keep her post.

He would never run with a Green VP.

Greens by definition want major government intervention in the economy in favor of, well, Green initiatives. Ron Paul, AFAIK, does not support anything of the sort.

Also, with the recent dismantling of the Climate Change/Global Warming arguments, I doubt we'll see a Green political surge anytime soon.

If Green was the only economic baggage, I think Ron could live with that - especially if it gets the 3rd party(s) 2-3% in the general. Libertarians are not even pulling 1%, so some compromise is in order. He's not getting the GOP nod. Maybe run Green under Lieberman. Anyway, a 3rd party push needs green and libertarians would provide minimal ideological friction in the coalition... it also needs a mainstream leader.

ecofarm: Running Ron Paul w/ Lieberman

Even if Ron Paul ran again as a Libertarian, the LP is not exactly the party of compromise.

                    Imran,

What else would you call it when major global warming scientists admit to faking, manipulating, and withholding data?

AFAIK, lots of congresscritters do not use their full budget allocations. It's no big deal.

Also, it should be noted that these budgets run into the few millions, so $100,000 is not a big proportion of his budget. It probably means he's running his office with one fewer staffperson out of about 20.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

If you pay your maid $100k, what kind of additional services does she provide to you?

You need to read up on that mini-scandal again.
