"Abolishing apartheid in South Africa was the downfall of that country. BUT, I do not hate black people!"
To quote James Watson
"A priori, there is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically. Our wanting to reserve equal powers of reason as some universal heritage of humanity will not be enough to make it so."
Seriusly what is it with people. Samons are on average big, Whites can't jump and part (not really a big one) of the IQ gap between Asians, Whites and Blacks is most probably genetic. If this turns out to be false I'll have no problem changing my stance. I just happen to think epicycles are unlikley.
Liberal Creationism and evolution stoping at the neck hold no appeal for me. I'm a darwinist through and through, we may see that selection for inteligence was equally strong in all climates but even then you are unlikley to see populations of different sizes and degrees of isolation doing perfectly equally well.
I expect the genetics of inteligence making this disscusion much more robust around 2017-2030. Either way the issue will fall Eppur si muove. That reality is uncaring of what we petty minds think of it is both horiffying and a source of condolence.

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila
BTW, Watson isn't useful for arguments from authority, everyone knows he was a racist.
I don't really see anything inherently racist about the comment for which he was crucified.
He was just
"'inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa' because 'all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really.'"
He is the co-discoverer of DNA and nobel prize winner, no dim bulb.
In my view he is probably a bit of a modern Galileo just like all the other scientists who have had their careers ruined to meet political or religious objectives. He should have been wiser and realized that one needs Decartre-like lip service to the modern clergy and hermetic language in order to get away with saying what the data shows.
And before you say his statement is not factually true realize that in 1994 during the height of the Bell Curve controversy the anthropological community stood firmly behind the IQ gaps recorded. All one can argue about is their causes and for Africa this makes little difference, even if the gap is purely environmental they wont break out of the low-IQ-poverty cycle without external intervention.

Africans should design an IQ test geared toward their culture, values, specialities and circumstantial context. Then they can give the test to Euros and claim Euros are stupid compared to them.

They were more inclined to the bias presented, and I don't even want to start on the selection-bias for samples. People have not "stood firmly" by international IQ tests since racism was wiped from mainstream government.
Would one really put their entire worldview on a "study" quoted by one guy from long ago? Actually, I doubt that VERY much. Chances are, this BS "evidence" fits a worldview to which one already ascribes. There is no way an intellectually honest and slightly critical thinking person could be so easily convinced.
Pushing the idea that Africans are less intelligent is, in fact, racism - blatent, naked and unabashed.

Ummmm, that's true, unless your only measure for the success of a country is social equality. Take race out of the picture, and give me the option of living in South Africa in 1980 or in 2000, and I'll still take 1980 every time and twice on Sunday.

Obviously because you're not black jerk!
I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

Yes, that's why taking race into account is stupid. If and only if I as black would I prefer South Africa today, and that's exactly the point. If our only measure is societal equality, or however you want to phrase it, then yes, I'm sure South Africa is better off today. If we judge nations on any other criteria, South Africa was vastly better in 1980.

GDP/cap has doubled since 1980.
Literacy rates have gone from ~50% to ~85%
Malnutrition rates have improved.
Average level of education has increased.
Quality of justice system/legislation has vastly improved.
South Africa has improved since 1980 in pretty much every measureable way.
But you're probably right - for black people it's much better, for white people, much worse. I'll take 1980 South Africa any day. Blacks might disagree.
Additionally, though, much of the "expanding wealth" in South Africa is due at least as much to redistribution than anything else, right?
