Firstly, no one said that (see #337, above) and

The insurance industry says they are being hit first and hardest by global climate change. As climate change continues to disrupt the environment, natural disasters are on the rise. The UN Environment Program reports that natural disasters are doubling every decade and over the last 15 years, the damage adds up to more than $1 trillion. The insurance industry is bearing the brunt – paying out more than they ever have in history – and is now looking for ways to lessen the burden. Some European companies are even trying to encourage their clients to change their ways and be more environmentally conscious to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
and finally, if you're going to call me stupid, do it for something I said, not something you said I said.

Also it is raining a lot somewhere in the world. More proof! More proof!

To be fair. DD can't read (look at someone of the obtuse questions he asks in other threads). Other skeptics may be able to read. Although, if Sloww is a skeptic, then it's starting to look bad for them.

                  • Yes, Ben, it is much easier to attribute false arguments to people that argue against what they are actually saying.

                    • Ben? That is Berzerker.

And if the ice caps melt, why do the water levels rise? When the ice melts in a glass of water, the water doesn't rise.

Maybe fresh water is a different density than salt water but are the Arctic ice caps fresh or salt water?

Put a couple ice cubes in a glass, and then fill the water to the brim. See what happens when the ice melts...

Nothing. The ice cubes displace water equivalent to the weight of the ice cube. So it doesn't overflow when the ice melts.

Hmmm, yeah I didn't even think about that when I posted it. You're right.

How much of the ice in the icecaps is just floating on the ocean, though, and how much of it is actually on top of land? I guess a significant amount of the ice must be on top of land for this to be an issue.

                              • The ice caps aren't all floating on water, the only significant one is the Arctic. The Antarctic and Greenland are on land.
