On a side note...what are you trying to do here, VJ? You're even being more of a douche than usual, which is saying something.

Are you feeling threatened after my friendly, innocuous postings at WPC caused the site to unravel? You're here to try to "poison" the site even more by trying to ignite more flamewars or something?

All you're doing is making yourself look like a sociopath. Truthfully. Which explains the whole WPC thing, I suppose.

I am amazed at how easily your innocuous posting at WPC destroyed their site. Great work.

          I almost forgot about that.

It's a strawman argument, and you're running circles around me, constantly changing goalposts for your own entertainment. It's worthless.

The point was that laptop would be a cheaper and a more performance-worthy option. That's all there was, until you saw an opportunity to start trolling for another flame war. Pathetic.

Not anymore. Now I want an iPad.

Fundamentally this does everything a netbook does, but in a more convenient reader-type format. And it is probably faster and more usable than any cheapo netbook.

One thing I will say, the pricing is crazy. For $500 you get a superb, easy to use netbook. But for $150 (and $60 a month) more it becomes.... a lousy, extremely inconvenient smartphone. Carriers are going to have to subsidize the hell out of the 3G model to sell it.

                  You can't be serious?

I've not moved the goalposts. It was you that was trying to define the iPad as a computer which means, by extension, the iPod Touch is a computer. That's not moving the goalposts, it's demonstrating the failure of your definition and analysis. I was just stating that the iPad is not a computer, which is why your cost/performance comparison to a computer was nonsensical.

Of course a computer would be a "cheaper and more performance-worthy option", if you were to use it as a computer. My point to you -- which you quite clearly still don't comprehend -- is it's not a computer. It's a media device, iPod game player, eReader, with 3G support, etc. You could use a computer to do these things in the same manner, but not necessarily with the same practicality or effectiveness.

It's like saying laptops are worthless because you can build a desktop PC for a fraction of the cost. Something that is, how you say, "cheaper and more performance-worthy". But the problem is desktops and laptops can share the same purposes at times, but they are not the same machines with different niches and users.

                    • SSH and Office are very important things on my netbook.

I don't see how this does everything that a netbook does.

As for e-ink readers, if they come down to $100 then they have a niche. But $450 for a Kindle in place of an iPad for $500? No thanks.
I think that most of those people who want a reader device will still go with the Kindle/Kindle DX or other e-ink reader. Many people just want to read, and the readers do that very well.

I have a Kindle DX and am happy with it. It's nothing fancy. It just reads.

                          • The other issue is the relative low resolution of the iPad : 1024x768.

The resolution makes it suck for movies (4:3) and eReader apps (low DPI).
