I underestimated how many "casuals" would be sucked into it. The iPad is not even trying to be aimed at that market, I'm not sure why I keep reading people saying it is.
Have you tried to browse the web on the iPhone/iPad? It's not a simpler experience than the computer. It's a concession to get it in the form factor. That's not going to attract people who have been scared away from desktop computers for 30 years.
It is simply not a 'newbie' device. It's a supplemental device. It will not replace a notebook or desktop for anyone, but it may supplement them for niche use cases."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Only on an iPod Touch.
I am assuming that it'll be **** like the facebook apps and specific newspaper apps that'll be delivered by the web rather than people using a web browser in the traditional way on it.
And they might well catch no market in that area, but if they don't you're right, it's going to be niche for apple fans only. It's the only other market I can see they might get.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

I have an iPod touch. I like it. But...
Why would I buy an iPad when I could buy an Asus 1201N netbook that is superior in pretty much every possible way and costs less than the entry level iPad? It has a better processor, a full OS, more storage, an HDMI output, a capable GPU, USB ports, an Ethernet port, and a keyboard. Oh, and you don't have to hold the damn thing the entire time you are using it.
And in a few months the Alienware M11x will be out.Got my new computer!!!!

Anyone who buys an Alienware is 14 years old and has never been laid. And netbooks are the opposite of sexy. The ipad is sexy. You can read things full size on it. For some people like lawyers, it is sexier to do this on an iPad. I really think you crossed the line Brizey. What's your background. You probably majored in art history, which would be pathetic if it didn't cost a lot more than the iPad you decry so much (this fact makes it embarrassing more so than pathetic). Maybe you shouldn't knock things before you try them.?

Well, the iPad is out, with the usual bunch of idiots waiting in line to get their hands on one. Won't anyone tell these poor bastards that they can pre-order and have the latest product delivered to their home on the release date?
Should you buy one? Fortunately, there's a handy flowchart available to help make that decision an easy one...

It appears that Apple has been pretty good at getting publishers on board. That's something Amazon has had some trouble with. However if the device sucks it won't matter how many publishers they get. Staring at what is basically a flashlight for hours on end is hardly eye-pleasing, hence e-ink.

QMFT. Especially for this. It's just not that big a deal. Save it for something that's actually newsworthy.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

If given an iPad, I'm sure I'd use it sometimes. I'm just not going to spend hundreds of dollars to get something that doesn't let me do something I can't already do.
That's the main failing in the iPad. All of the other devices that became popular did so because they made something practical that was not before. The iPod put an unprecedented number of songs in your pocket in a convenient way, the iPhone was the first REAL smartphone for non-business people.
