And yes, you are very ****ing clever for pointing out that I must just be statistically ****ed and that's all. The problem is a cursory look at any of the popular enthusiast forums over the past few years and you'll see a definite shift towards Gigabyte from ASUS where quality is concerned. People have been getting burned by ASUS and not going back, and Gigabyte has been the net beneficiary. Even ASUS is running scared, they've been caught in embarrassing public incidents where they are lying outright about the capability of Gigabyte's products to try to downplay them.
Look at the financials. Gigabyte's revenues are going up, ASUS' revenues (and especially profits) are plummeting -- even as ASUS tries to diversify by shoving ****ty products in every market niche possible. Gigabyte does one main business and does it well, ASUS is stretched thin and ****ing themselves over in the process. Their sales are going down because people are having bad experiences with them -- whether it's with an EeePC that breaks after 8 months, a motherboard whose capacitors pop after a year, or a laptop whose cheap paint comes off within months of use.
