You clearly have no idea about PC brands.

    Gigabyte?

I don't think you understand the discussion.

BMW doesn't have a premium brand because it IS a premium brand. That's why they can use model numbers without any further differentiation.

Toyota/Honda/Nissan have premium brands to differentiate those products from their mainstream products.

I said that Asus is a premium brand.
It is not. They make ****ing $650 laptops and even cheaper netbooks. ASUS is a mainstream brand. Not premium in any possible way.

They make more reliable motherboards than ASUS these days. I've had tons of problems with ASUS motherboards over the past five years, and I used to be a dedicated ASUS man. I RMAed my old 680i motherboard twice on two different occasions. It was ****ing ridiculous.

Don't tell me I've no idea about PC brands. I do my research, I am a member at many of the enthusiast communities (AnandTech, HardOCP, TomsHardware, etc) so I'm exposed to all kinds of other real-world complaints with the motherboards. ASUS is no longer the top mobo brands for reliability, Gigabyte has surpassed them.

I don;t think you understand marketing in the computer hardware industry, so that makes us even.

You have no idea what you are yapping about.

They make $800 entry level laptops. Acer, Dell, HP, etc make $600 units for that space.

I've pretty much schooled you in this discussion, so I would disagree.

It's funny that I can find ASUS laptops for less than $800 if they make $800 laptops.

Just because they are not THE cheapest laptops on the block does NOT mean they are a ****ing Premium brand. Jesus ****ing Christ.

I think the problem here is your standards are calibrated to Edmonton standards. ASUS is a premium computer brand, Ford is a premium car manufacturer, and Wendy's is a premium food establishment...

ASUS is a mainstream brand at best. They are in no ****ing way premium. Anyone who offers a capable laptop (4GB RAM, etc) for anything less than $1000 is not a premium brand. They may not be discount brands, but it sure as hell isn't premium.

              Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!

You've had two, as you have said. May I remind you what the statistical significance of two out of millions is?

Gigabyte is cheap crap with bling. I am not surprised you are attracted to it.

What the flying ****? There's no ****ing bling on the mobo at all.

It was my ASUS motherboard that had ****ing LCD post displays in the motherboard bracket and colorized heatsinks. It was bling, not the gigabyte.

And while I've had 2 ASUS motherboards on MY LATEST GAMING PC, I had an ASUS motherboard before that on my Athlon 64 that was RMAed once also for capacitor issues. I've built half a dozen computers over the past five years with ASUS motherboards for friends and family and half of them have had the motherboards go for various reasons. It got to the point where I ditched the brand and went to Gigabyte because I was fed up with it.

I wasn't going to bring it up for your own sake. I don't want to make this personal.

You make cheap **** you sell for the lowest price possible, the last time I assembled PCs they were actually premium products...it was Voodoo. I'm not surprised you've no concept what premium is.

What the ****? They're not the cheapest!

Is your definition of "premium" simply "not the cheapest"?

I'm not sure how technical you are on this -- I'm assuming you're not technical at all given past discussions -- but ASUS' main problem is they started to get overambitious with their motherboard bling. The "EPUs" they've added to their mobos over the past few years are horrifically designed. They lead to power regulation issues (and thus a glut of capacitor-related destruction) and system stability issues in Windows if the EPU **** is enabled.

They've started overcomplicating their boards with LCD screens, EPUs, ridiculously complicated power regulation logic (what are they at now, 24-phase?) and they don't have the engineering talent to pull it off. The past few years their quality has tanked.

                        Focus, Grasshopper.

You brought the price of units available equating to quality into the discussion.

In any level of computers you can name, Asus will not have the cheapest units available. That honour (?) will go to Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.

The fact that Asus competes across a broad range of categories including entry level is a failing purely of your mind, not Asus, or any other vendor for that matter.

The fact that Apple cannot figure out how to make a notebook for less than $1000 should tell you a lot, when every other vendor of PCs does.

You are lining up to pay Jobs rent. Congratulations.

Look, this is clearly a matter of standards.

You consider a premium laptop to cost $700 and be made of cheap plastic.

I consider a premium laptop to be something north of $1000 with solid build quality and not made out of cheap plastic.

ASUS is NOT a premium brand because they make cheap **** in addition to high-priced ****. You clearly are not aware of the concept of what a premium brand is. Ask Ming to explain it to you at some point, because you're not listening to me.

I'd also just like to say I'm mind-****ed by the concept of cheap "premium" entry-level PCs.

ASUS is not in the class of any of those computers. Even their high-end laptops have a flimsy feel to them.

And what kind of Premium PC brand has a slogan of "Rock solid. Heart touching."?

They're cheap Taiwanese crap and the sooner people realize it, the better.

Gigabyte made their bones by selling boards with more features for less than Asus did. How did they do it? Hint: it was not by putting better engineering and quality into them.

As for bling, that will depend on what you are buying. Yes, they do have basic models, with less bling, for cheaper than the equivalent Asus board.

What was it you have been trying to tell us about the company with the cheaper product?

All the mbd vendors are Taiwanese, you goof (excepting some American server products companies). Asus made their fortune in that market by being the best over a sustained period of time.

Asus has not made complete systems until relatively recently.

I am not surprised that people with little knowledge are unfamiliar with them.
