so, I took everyone's advice
and applied to a bunch of actuarial positions.
In a few weeks I will be working for a small (~50 professionals) actuarial consulting firm in NoVA. Pay is similar to the position with the web company I was going to work for, but I expect both short-term and long-term salary growth potential is a lot higher. I'll be working both as a consultant and a developer (they only have one professional on staff with a real software background, and so I'll be taking over a lot of internal software stuff from him) in a roughly 2:1 ratio.Comment
