Most people here were upset with the hysteria that some people here were trying to cause, along with the media. It was ridiculous.
IMHO the intelligent thing to do is to get the vaccine if you're ever around many people who may be sick (public transit, work in retail, etc), whether you're soon to be traveling, etc. It's free (in Canada at least) for everyone, it's safe, and now there's no lines. There's no reason not to get it, really.
The stupidity most people balked at was the mass hysteria. The "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE", "IT'S A PANDEMIC OMFG" kind of thing that caused insane lineups at the flu clinics, etc. Criticizing that doesn't mean one should not get the vaccine given that it's free and there's no lines. I also got the seasonal flu vaccine, which I'm also not really worried about, but it helps.
