In any case the NUMBERS ARE CLOSE TO EACH OTHER.

The other point is that while the number of native English speakers is diminishing, the NUMBER OF PEOPLE USING ENGLISH is increasing.

The data is everywhere, you ****ing moron. Roughly 60% of immigrants choose an English education when given the chance and/or use English at home as their first or second language.

Marois doesn't give a **** how many native speakers there are, but she is concerned about immigrants adopting French. You're not making any sense.

No, it actually isn't. The number of people who speak English at home has gone from just under 15% to just over 10% in the last 35 years.

Montreal is FAR less English today than it was 35 years ago, and is continuing to get less and less English.

Right now it is at 16.4% (a small increase from 35 years ago).

Agreed, but it's more a question of feeling than demographics (as most businesses have adopted French).

In any case, if someone not from Quebec is trying to understand, here's the point:

The PQ talking about language is like the GOP talking about abortion, i.e. lots of talk to rally the base but minimal legislation.

I was going to ask if issues like this are more likely to keep the PQ in or out of power?

                  We'll have to see.

The nationalist right party is in shambles right now, and they're most likely trying to get what's left to rally over typical linguistic/immigration bull****.

What are the chances that Quebec will secede before 2050? Give a percentage.

No, it isn't you dumb ****.

Seriously, how ****ing stupid are you?

                      From your link

Langue parlée le plus souvent à la maison
                      Anglais 744 430

                      Dividing by 7 435 905 gives just over 10%, as I said.

                      Learn to ****ing read.

Even adding in "Anglais et français", "Anglais et langue non officielle", and "Anglais, français et langue non officielle" gets you to ~11.5% or so

Holy ****, you are almost as bad as Ben

KH I thought that you were speaking about Montreal (given your earlier comments).

English is rising in Montreal, declining in Quebec, overall slightly increasing.

The concern is that with the current natality rate, immigration will gobble French given the % of immigrants favoring English.

No. I am citing the 8% from memory and can't find a source.

Hey, fakeboris: where's your figures from 35 years ago? How the **** is it that you claim that 16% is a slight increase for Montreal when 35 years ago the number for all of QC was close to that?
