I have really, really high hopes that Obama will do something worthy of a peace prize in the next 3 and a half years. His foreign policy is one of the main reasons I like him. But ****... this is quite silly, he really hasn't done anything yet.

This prize is just in time for Obama to send 60,000 add'l troops to Afghanistan.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

No, you really don't, so don't read any more of this post.

Are you saying that the Cold War between us and Russian has returned? If not, what happened to it?
Are you saying that the North Koreans are refusing to negotiate nuclear weapons?
Are you saying that a nuclear-armed Iran, worried about U.S. attempts to establish permanent bases in Iraq is posed to invade?
Are you saying that the U.S. energy policy remains import oil from our Muslim buddies in the Middle East?
1.) What cold war? That ended in 1990, and nothing even remotely close to it has ever existed or has threatened to return since that time.
2.) Actually, yes, there has been no dicernable change in NK's stance, and in fact they have made some very provocative moves since Obama has come to power. Obama has literally done absolutely nothing of relevance concerning NK since he has been in office. He is following the exact same policy as Bush.
3.) Since when was Iran about to invade because of US bases in Iraq? Just so you know, the withdrawal of the US from Iraq was designed and implemented by BUSH, all Obama is doing is coming along for the ride.
4.) Yes, and it will continue to be this way for decadeds.

Seriously Z, you can't possible believe in any of your "points above." They are pure fabrication.

Actually, yes. The meme of "omg look i'm ignoring stupid people!" is tired, combative, and mean-spirited. Leave it out of your posts if you want to keep posting.

He has pacified the US population, preventing insurrection. Well deserved imo.

Golly gosh gee whiz. Maybe we should ask Obama to come make peace.

I must admit that it is refreshing to see that most of Obama's supporters here recognize this for the silliness that it is.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Out of interest, when is the deadline the committee has for voting for this prize? I've heard from several sources that is was around 2-3 weeks after Obama took office, is that true?

I heard that was the deadline to submit the nominations, not for when the decision is made.
