Let us pray.
Back in 1965, a teenager named Jonathan Klein accepted his Rabbi’s invitation to compose some music for their prayer service. A few years later, it was recorded with some of the top jazz players such as Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones, Ron Carter, and Jerome Richardson. It was then issued as ‘Hear O Israel: A Prayer Ceremony In Jazz’ a limited custom pressed LP and sold at a few synagogues. It soon disappeared, becoming a hard-core jazz record collector secret and copies traded for silly money. How such a caliber of player got involved, remained a mystery.
