I figured most of the employees decided these 2 were misfits that didn't need to be taken seriously or have had enough experience to know not to **** with a pimp in their presence. Tell them what they want to hear and get them out.

Perhaps they did some good work as a non-profit, I dont know. But as it exists, ACORN is a very dangerous perversion of the system that needed to be stopped.

How many people here haven't screwed around at work? Playing games or surfing the intartubes? You think these people are higher and mightier than Joe Shmoe and Mr. White Collar? Please. Yeah they should be more professional but if NONE of the paperwork was sent thru then it's nothing but a hatchet job like Asher said (except for the gun-totin' crackwhore). I can't say for certain whether or not that statement was true but if it is then the whole episode was blown way out of proportion.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it's improbable given the time and effort involved, leaving aside the fact that their facial expressions and body language in the videos don't suggest the "playing along" or "joke" theory the slightest bit. No smirks, no WTF looks, no glancing at each other, just down-to-business advice. If they were poking fun, their deadpan abilities would give Mitch Hedberg a run for his money (well, his estate anyway).

I don't know if you've watched the videos beginning to end, but it's clear from the context that the first interview was meant to be preliminary and all parties contemplated a follow-up meeting once some things were cleared up (picking the house, getting the girls, etc.). Hell, in one of the news interviews posted on this thread, Giles even mentioned that she made a follow-up phone call to at least the San Diego employee IIRC (maybe others) and the plan was still on. Nobody's suggesting that the paperwork was finalized in the very first sit-down, and it wouldn't have to be to get the same point across.

ACORN, the community organizing group embarrassed recently in a video sting, said Wednesday that it needs to determine whether it has major internal problems, but it also struck back, filing a lawsuit against the people who conducted the secret investigation.

Bertha Lewis, head of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, told reporters in a conference call that ACORN does not support criminal activity and that it thinks the filmmakers should have obeyed Maryland laws. In the state, where one video that embarrassed ACORN was made, the act constituted illegal wiretapping, the suit says.
