Gimme Shelter kicks the dog**** out of Honky Tonk Woman.

As far as Clapton, you might as well leave him out of any musical discussion.
All others pale in comparison and it's not really fair.

Clapton was ok. It's worth buying both the Cream and the Derek and the Dominoes records. The rest of his career can quite easily be covered with a compilation. It's not like The Beatles or The Stones where you need to buy a dozen albums just to have most of the good stuff.

Here's a list from Rolling Stone in 2003. I don't agree, and neither will you, but it's a list, just like this thread. An opinion. It does well for a discussion.

Jrabbit, we now have these things called CDs and MP3s that allow people of our generation to listen to music you could only hear when you gathered around the radio with your family, presumably to listen to FDR's fireside chats. It's a magical time.

Amazingly, FDR was dead by the time I was born. Much like your relationship with Keith Moon.

It just struck me that virtually every tune mentioned was from the late 60s and the 70s. (And it appears from this thread that virtually all the great rock songs were done by the Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin.) It's deja-vu for me, as I had many discussions remarkably similar to this at the time it was all happening.

But I see we've morphed into a Clapton: God or Not? discussion...

I probably know more about Clapton's career than you do. He was lucky to get a backing band as great as the Dominoes after his ego helped destroy Cream and Blind Faith, but then he decided to become a junkie after one album with them.
