Christ I don't watch hockey. I don't really watch any sports other than football.

Well, interestingly enough, I had a Poli Sci class this summer where that question was asked. We had a MLA come to our class, whose name escapes me right now, but his electoral district was in the North Central (the 'hood' of Regina).

Anyway, one of the students asked the candidate who he thought the best PM was. The MLA said Trudeau (yawn), the student then responded that he also thought Trudeau was the best PM. Now, to me that is an answer akin to when somebody asks you "Who would you like to meet if you could meet anyone?" and somebody says something like "Albert Einstein" or "Gandhi". It's just so generic and doesn't really say much.

The thing is, I didn't know enough about Canadian history to raise any counterpoint at the time. If somebody had asked me who the best Canadian Prime Minister was, I would've been unable to answer. I certainly wouldn't have said Trudeau, simply because of the generic vanilla-ness of that answer as I already pointed out.

So I researched Canadian political history a little. Now I would say the best Canadian PM is Lester Pearson. He won a nobel peace prize (though granted, that has little to do with his time as PM, it still establishes the man was a factor in the international stage). Moreover, most of the specific programs Trudeau gets credited for, were either established by Pearson, or the process to begin looking into them was started by Pearson. I think an argument could be made that Trudeau would not have been able to accomplish as much as he did had Pearson not laid the foundations. Certainly, the steps taken to mold Canada into the country it is today, with the social benefits and equalities we strive for, are IMO more due to Pearson's work than Trudeau's.

How can you be Canadian if you don't like Hockey?

Right now I'm 'undeclared'. I have some business classes I took at SIAST, but I can't actually get into the business program until I take 10 general arts type classes. So, I'm going to get a International Studies - Development Certificate, then go into the Business Faculty. I've been 'enrolled' at the U of R for a while, but haven't taken any classes from them until this summer.

                              That was quick.

                              Perhaps we have been hasty.
