The question is why do the media and others keep calling these protests phony? They don't seem to be any different than protests, for various issues, organized by the left. I've been to plenty of leftist protests, these folks don't seem any more or less nutty.

How does one determine a protest is "real" vs. "phony"?

If people are paid to go protest, it's phony. There are some saying that the insurance industry is behind some of these protests. I doubt it myself, but they may be in the mix, taking advantage of the situation Glenn Beck has created. Most of these folks, I think, are genuine protesters.
