    Is it? Is protecting the slow and the forgetful really in the long term interests of our species? Or would we be better to just let them die off? After all, the slow and the forgetful are more likely to breed slow and forgetful children. Wouldn't it be better to simply let them die off young, before society has invested too many resources in them?

      Maybe being slow and forgetful has a selective advantage. There are high costs to being schmart.

        Historically the slow and forgetful made excellent serfs, whose service freed the quick and the smart to do other jobs vital to the perpetuation of their society.
