Sure it is. Go to city hall, say "Marry us", pay $75, done. Would recoup that cost within a month on my car insurance.

In our case, we're both college-grad professionals so I'm not too worried about lopsided financial contributions in the event of a split either.

Only if they're old enough to clean the house and do chores. It's really most economical for us just to get a houseboy, because then we can get sex out of it also and not just housework.

shhhh don`t tell MY wife that--- I`ve sold her on the idea that to lessen the options would be false advertising

          For me hmmmm

before marriage (mainly before children) had much better quantity but over time I think our quality is much better-- we are more open about desire and fantasy and we already know each other very well to know some tried and true things

oh and I don`t think marriage has much to do with any improvement-- its just time and being comfortable with a partner that is willing to have fun with our sex life

For most people, I would imagine that the expected value of the money lost in a potential divorce is greater than the expected value of the benefits you laid out above.

The tax advantage is the only clear financial benefit of marriage over cohabitation that I can see.

Nothing. Make it simple, sign it infront of a witness.

It's nothing new. We've been engaged for years, haven't done anything about it cause it first wasn't legal, and then he was busy with school etc.

The insurance savings are also significant. And I imagine that there would be a benefit if and when they buy a house.

I find the reasons why I got married are starting to seem less and less...valid. Sex, well...man was it ever better before marriage. Now I get home from work and it is like a chore. Like **** she wants it again, gah I just want to relax. Head has become a distant memory, a rare once a blue moon thing. Screw marriage, just live together its easier on the wallet come time for break up.

Would an older man (age>30) really save that much on car insurance after marriage? I honestly don't know.

From what I heard, it about halves a 25 year old's...which for me would be about $125/mo savings.
