The only way to be gun free would be some very extreme measures. Basically you'd have to have the military (local police forces won't cut it) go door to door and confiscate all guns. But you'd have at least 100 Ruby Ridge's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Ridge) or Waco's on your hands.

Starting wars with Mexico would not be a good thing (it could interrupt the supply of hot mexican women to my city).

Hrmpf, US could easily be gunfree in a few years :

Stop producing any guns except military (tighten security of this)

Make it obligatory to keep private guns in burglarproof cabinets.

Let law enforcement use a couple of years to collect illegitimate weapons.

Start banning civilians to have weapons including collection.

Start wars agains Canada, Mexico etc if they don't stop illegal gun export.

Firearms are the right of every citizen of a democratic nation. The only thing, that keeps us from total government tyranny is our right to bear and keep arms.

Tell that to African-American victims of the KKK from 1868 on. The "tyrannical" US government, which had continued the military occupation of the former states in rebellion reacted by ending the "reconstruction", removing the troops and allowing the southern states to [I]de facto[I] deprive their black citizens of their civil rights by virtue of the fact that it became suicidal for a black adult to show up at a polling place. Some opf those black people actually did own hunting guns.

To be serious for a moment, the biggest problem with your plan is that the majority of firearms in the US are not registered. On top of that the police need a good reason to search people or their property, "they might have a gun" is not a good reason.

And where exactly do you think Canada and Mexico get their guns from? Never mind the fact that we will never go to war with either of them.

To be honest, I don't suggest a "search all for guns". As mentioned, civilians should be allowed to carry guns under strict protection while the police through normal work drains illegal weapons.

What do you mean by "normal police action"?

I think you are also vastly underestimating how many firearms exist in the US. A quick google search reveals the number to be from 9 guns for every 10 people to as many as 1 gun per person. Keep in mind that most people don't own a gun, and most people who do own a gun are not willing to part with it, for various reasons.

Lets say IF all cillyvillian weapons in the USA was made illegal I think people would give up there weapons without much of a fight.

If martial law is declared for the sole purpose of confiscating peoples' guns I would go get a gun and fight that.
