    Well, lets say that thay go 20 knots - that is some 15 hours. If coordinated with the flight attack, it could be done.

      The question is kind of silly if you just keep giving the Japanese stuff they didn't have. Fast transports are kind of ridiculous. You need a kind of boxy ship to make a good transport, and a sleek ship to make it fast. You could give a boxy ship powerful engines to make it fast, but then your cost of production rises, along with fuel consumption. Like DanS said, Hawaii was about as far as they could get with what they had. Attacking with "fast transports" would have been impossible.

      The Dec. 7 attacks went as well as anybody in the IJN could have hoped, and it was all they could muster. Japan was doomed by strategic policy, not by a lack of aggression on the battlefield.
      When I say fast, I don't mean some 40 knot or like - just more than the usual 8-10 knot that is common for that time. That could easily be build.

            I don't think that they attacked PH as a prelude to invasion of the US. They wanted to shock and awe the US navy so that we wouldn't get involved in their war in Asia. Unfortunately, all they did was give that warmonger Roosevelt a reason.

            If Bush II was president at the time, we'd have never declared war against Japan. We'd probably declared war on India in response, instead. Get that trading company the Brits left behind.

                        Japan = Afghanistan, Germany = Iraq is a better analogy. Would be even better if dumbass Hitler hadn't declared war first.

                            They moved most of the fleet to San Diego after the first Pearl Harbor attack.

                                iraq under hussein was opposed to islamist regimes like the ones in iran and taleban in afganistan... before 9/11, iraq and afganistan were ideological enemies, there was a mutual emnity among the two.

                                but who gives a **** about that. roosevelt should've invaded sweden in ww2: since all those whitey folk in europe look alike, they probably have exactly the same aims and enemies. it probably doesn't make a bit of a difference, so we should succeed either way, just like bush succeeded in iraq because all those brown people have exactly the same aims and enemies

                                when champs like you are typical voters, it's not a big wonder that your government ****s your country over and over again with completely screwed-up invasions like vietnam and iraq
