    • Interesting read, though perhaps Khamenei's lack of power is slightly overstated in his account.

        • To supplement reporting by New York Times journalists inside Iran on Tuesday, The Lede will continue to track the aftermath of Iran’s disputed presidential election.

Nice to see the ruski's are afraid of their people getting tired of their government

Update | 4:41 p.m. Russia Today, the Russian government’s English-language satellite news channel, aired this video report on Tuesday looking into the Iranian government’s claims that the whole opposition movement in Iran is a plot fostered by Western governments and George Soros. Perhaps because it is financed by the Kremlin, which quickly congratulated Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on being named the winner of the Iran’s presidential election, Russia Today’s way of investigating this conspiracy theory was to talk to just two guests, from the far-right and far-left of the American press, who both endorsed the idea that it is all a plot.

Craig Roberts, a former member of the Reagan administration, said that the C.I.A. was behind the whole thing. Wayne Madsen, an investigative journalist, agreed with the Russia Today anchor that Mir Hussein Moussavi’s green movement had “all the hallmarks” of an American-orchestrated “color revolution.” Mr. Madsen added that, given the heavy coverage of what is happening in Iran by American news organizations, “it seems like there is a coordinated and concerted effort to try to stir things up using the Western media.”

          • Russia Today's a pathetic news source. We get it here.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                That was a good one.

Are you this dense that you can't talk about the topic with the proper respect, or are you just making lame attempts at humour?

                    • They aren't allowing public mourning for Neda. Sad really. I shouldn't latch onto the "popular" media sensations. As they kind of disgust me. The media will latch onto any pretty face that dies tragically. And Neda was pretty (Oerdin has no taste from living in California so long ). But that's besides the point. Regardless of her looks a young life has been lost for no good reason.

The reason why I latch onto this story is not because she was pretty. But because I have hope. I have hope that the country will modernize and women will get more rights. So when I see a woman in western style clothing and appearance die, it saddens me. I think the young people want to move into the modern world, the old religious leaders do not want to give up their power, and won't allow it.

I think this movement is about dead. But I do have hope one day Iran, and the rest of the middle east will move into the modern age, and that women will have equal rights as men.

Have you ever even lost a loved one in your long, miserable life? Did that not give you any proper perspective on things like this?

                          • What should happen to the guy who shot Neda? Is he not a war criminal? If he's a war criminal, what of those who sanction the actions? What should be done?

                            Life in prison?

                            • Um, no. There's no actual war there. So war criminal is not the term you're looking for.
