Then why get so defensive when people question her record? At least this opposition isn't based around her skin color as it was for Estrada.
And yes, she most likely will be.
Then what's the problem? SCOTUS nominees are never going to pass without some opposition. It's been like this since at least the Bork hearings.

No real problem wrt the nomination, but I find it's another example of the right-wing irrationality that's been plaguing the landscape for several years. At least the firefighter issue has some merit.

I guess I should expect this reaction... it's typical when a group that has enjoyed power finds itself suddenly bereft of said power. Hopefully things will get better in ~2 years.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Because your claims against her record are flat wrong. Now that you've been thoroughly trounced, you're defense is, "It's wrong to argue with me." You are the most pathetic poster on this forum.

          Same with liberals and/or democrats.
I am bipartisan, both sides have there pros and cons. Liberals want big government, thats bad. Conservatives want less government, thats good. That was the basic understanding of the Constitution and separation of powers in our foundation. Liberals like to dictate to people what they can and cannot do. Conservatives like to do the same, but not as much and not as pushy about it. Liberals love to throw god and the Bible into their methods. Conservatives are a bit more hush hush on that aspect, they use god and bible quotes yes, but they don't out right like to say how god tells them how to do things. If you didn't notice by now, I don't believe in that stuff.

Liberals have this great idea that the government should provide programs for the under privileged, the poverty, the lower class (that is socialist) and I am against that in part because it is my tax money that that funds. The other reason is because I was poverty, I had a long long time in poverty, but now I work at a fortune 500 company making a lot of money a year because I was dedicated and persistent. The government should not be giving hand outs. They also like to throw foreign aid every which way, I am definitely not for my tax money being used to help people in other countries. Take care of your own first.

Conservatives have a bit of a war trend, not always by choice, but they tend like a good fight to prevent further action over the look weak and open to attack. National security is a key to their methods, sometimes going too far as to restrict freedoms. That is bad.

Our system is supposed to be open, anyone who the people see as a leader can lead. This is not the case in action though, as our government is 2 parties that hold office and you never see the other parties even allowed on the ballot. The open presidential debates are biased, they allow the 2 parties but ignore the other leading independent or Constitution or whatever other party that has a candidate into the debates. In 2008 Nader should have been allowed in the debate, he had a strong backing by a vast percentage of citizens. The monopoly of the 2 parties needs to end and more parties need to be allowed to voice the voice of their constituents. This can do more good than bad.

Another thing that I am strong about is immigration. I am against the open immigration and lack of action against illegals that the liberals push for. This whole idea of granting citizenship to illegals through fines, or that 2 illegals who have a child on US soil thus makes the child a US citizen is all a farce. My family were immigrants, they did the paperwork, paid the money, and spent a long time on a ship in crap conditions. They came here and became a part of society doing their part. My great uncle *few times over* got off the boat with my great grandfather *few times over* during the civil war. My grandfather had lost a leg and didn't have this problem, but my uncle had to sign up and serve the Union Army. They earned their way here. Illegals now just get to sit and hang out and pay nothing and get everything. How is that right? It's not. Liberals like this idea of letting them stay.

Also, last note, I am not generalizing. I know not everyone is the same, but its harder writing 'some liberals' with every sentence, same with conservatives. And I am Independent, as I said before.

Why does every liberal claim to not be socialist? And claim that everyone not liberal must obviously be a conservative?

Are you capable of making logical sense?

You posted a long diatribe of strongly conservative/republican viewpoints and then claimed to be an independent. You are either joking or extremely naive.

You are not catching the point. I am an independent, I am registered as green party actually, and I vote for which side I believe shows the best ideals, policies, etc. I voted McCain because I believed in McCain, not everything but more than I did Obama. I don't care too much for liberals because they are a lot like some Christians I know. They push and push and push and say everyone else is wrong. Your telling me I am wrong, your entitled to your opinion.

I had this fight with a cousin of mine, that one ended with the family split. She's a liberal, my father is a hard liner conservative, and I am a veteran who has traveled around the world and educated myself. Would you like if I referred to you as something besides liberal?

Because literally almost no one in this country is a socialist. You obviously have don't know the definition of many of the words you've been throwing around.

Oerdin, lets have a run down of the terms, shall we?

Socialist: a member of the Socialist party; the theory or system of social organization in which the means of production and distribution of goods are owned and controlled collectively or by the government.

Liberal: someone who favors progress or reform, as in political or religious. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant; open minded; not literal interpretation but in fact liberal interpretation; a person of liberal views

Liberalism: The quality or state of being liberal; a political and social philosophy advocating individual freedom and protection of civil liberties.

Conservative: a person who preserves existing conditions, institutions, or to restore traditional ones; cautious, moderate; traditional

Independent: thinking or acting for oneself; not depending or contingent upon something else; a person who votes without regard to the party affiliation of candidates

Now these are literal definitions, the interpretation and action of the 2 parties are not always so cut and dry as definitions are. The reason liberals are associated with socialism, in my perspective, is that the majority of liberal ideals are in parallel with socialist ideals. As follows, universal health care, government control of business, control of education, taxation differentiated by class (more for upper), government sponsored programs for under privileged citizens.

Conservatives are in conflict of those ideals, also known as radicals by some.

I am in the middle, as I agree with somethings of both sides and do not make my vote based on party affiliation.

And also, there literally are socialist in America. American Socialist Party, Party for Socialism and Liberation, Socialist Equality Party, and Progressive Labor Party to name a few. Not all active, but goes to show there are socialists in the US. Biden is actually associated as a socialist, more so fascist though.
