The whole "incorrect" = "liar" thing assumes intent. Not provable, yet often good for upwards of a page of worthless dogpiling. Often followed by the "I declare this a personal attack and demand an apology" thing, and the "you are stalking me" thing, which are just tedious.

Yeah, nothing subtle here. The thread that got me started garnered several pages of new posts and hit 500/closed while I was writing my rant. (I was watching Fringe at the time, just writing during commercials.)

To be honest, the shtick yesterday did go on far longer than was intended. I honestly expected Nikolai just to apologize in "one more post". He's normally very quick to not offend anyone.

So what's the problem? Somebody learns to be more careful before they say stuff, the principles involved get to troll and the rest of us are entertained.

By the way, the whole "not making false claims because you'll be checked" factor is, I think, one of the GREAT things about internet discussions.

When you're shooting the **** with somebody in a spoken conversation the most ridiculous false claims can be put forward without anybody being able to falsify them. If, later on, somebody does some research then the individual making the claim might have a different recollection (let's be charitable) of what he actually said than other people do.
